The project is a four-story, 215,000-square-foot state-of-the-art research and treatment facility. A pedestrian bridge to an adjacent building is included as part of the project. This building defines the east entrance to the Cleveland Clinic along Euclid Avenue. With the assistance of a construction manager, a steel frame was selected as the most cost-effective structural system. The radial exam room layout and semi-circular exterior provided a challenge for column layout and orientation. A partial basement was constructed to house the mechanical and electrical systems. Main Entrance and Canopy: Caisson foundations with grade beams were used to support the structure. A fast-track construction schedule was required for the foundation and structural steel system. The design, bid, and construction began prior to the completion of the architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings. The facility was completed in the early fall of 1999.
